School has begun. That means homework, papers, quizzes, exams, group projects and so much more. Feeling stressed out yet? Don’t worry. Here are five tips to help you stay more focused and less stressed this year.

1. Don’t Stress About Being Stressed

It may sound funny, but it happens. You’re thinking about all the work you have coming up and suddenly you’re even more stressed than you were before. Stressing about next month’s tasks won’t help. Take every day one step at a time. You can only control what is happening right now.

2. Work It Out

One of the best ways to relieve stress is through exercise. Head to the gym or hit the pavement for 30 minutes every day to get out some of that built up stress. Exercising causes a release of endorphins, which will make you feel happy and relaxed. So, even if you got a not-so-great grade on your exam, with a bit of physical activity, you’ll feel better in no time.

3. Get Some Zzz’s

It can’t be said enough, your body needs sleep. Not getting enough sleep can be damaging to your body and actually make it harder for you to focus. Staying up all night makes you tired and unable to concentrate, and let’s be honest, pulling an all nighter probably won’t help you pass your exam. Instead, lay down and get some adequate sleep, then wake up and get back to studying.

4. Eat Something Healthy

If you’re trying to focus and do homework, it’s better to grab an apple or some celery sticks. Eating junk food will make you tired and sluggish, ultimately making homework take longer to complete. Stick to a healthy diet that will give you energy and help keep you alert.

5. Make Time to Socialize

All that stress and no play can lead to you feeling down. Continuing to work when your body needs a break will only make you feel worse. Set aside an hour or two where you can go grab some coffee or tea with friends and unwind, no matter what’s going on.
